Short answer: one broast leg piece carries roughly 300 to 400 kcal, and a breast piece runs about 360 to 470. Per 100 g of edible meat with skin and coating, broast lands around 250 to 310 kcal. A full meal with fries and a bun is a different number entirely, usually past 1000 kcal, and that is where most people underestimate it.

Broast is Pakistan's fast food answer to fried chicken. Marinated chicken pieces get a seasoned flour coating and go into a pressure fryer, which cooks them fast under pressure and leaves the outside crisp and the inside juicy. Shops across Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad sell it by the piece or as a meal deal, almost always with fries, a soft bun and a garlic sauce or ketchup. The name comes from the Broaster pressure fryer, and the dish has been a late night staple here for decades.

Why one piece is not one number

The cut decides a lot. Breast is lean meat, so it carries more protein per bite and less fat than thigh, but a breast piece is also the biggest piece on the tray, so it still ends up highest in total calories. Thigh meat is fattier by nature. Leg and wing pieces are smaller, so they look like the safe pick until you eat three of them and pass the breast piece anyway.

The coating is the second variable. A thin, well seasoned dusting adds crunch for not much oil. A thick, craggy crust soaks up more oil in the fryer and adds both calories and carbs. Two shops can sell you a leg piece of the same weight and land 100 kcal apart on coating alone.

Pressure frying helps a little. Because the chicken cooks under pressure for a shorter time, it tends to absorb less oil than chicken left bubbling in an open fryer. Published broasted chicken tables put a breast piece at roughly 290 to 360 kcal depending on size, which sits below the same piece open fried (caloriedetail.com, grillcuisines.com). That is a real difference, but it does not turn broast into a light meal. Skin, coating and oil are still doing most of the work.

Salt is worth a mention too. Broast marinades are salty, and a large breast piece can carry past 900 mg of sodium before any sauce. The fries and dip push that higher again, so the meal is heavy on salt as well as calories.

Food Portion Calories Protein Carbs Fat
Broast chicken, edible meat with skin and coating 100 g 250 to 310 kcal 24 to 29 g 8 to 12 g 13 to 18 g
Broast leg piece about 200 g served 300 to 400 kcal 22 to 28 g 9 to 13 g 17 to 23 g
Broast breast piece about 240 g served 360 to 470 kcal 34 to 42 g 11 to 15 g 18 to 25 g
Broast thigh piece about 200 g served 320 to 420 kcal 24 to 30 g 10 to 14 g 20 to 27 g
Broast wing piece about 110 g served 170 to 240 kcal 14 to 18 g 7 to 10 g 11 to 15 g
2 pieces, leg plus breast about 440 g served 660 to 870 kcal 56 to 70 g 20 to 28 g 35 to 48 g
2 pieces with fries and a bun meal deal 1080 to 1420 kcal 60 to 74 g 68 to 88 g 42 to 58 g

Served weights include bone, so the edible meat in a piece is less than the number in the portion column. Fries add roughly 300 to 400 kcal for a regular portion, a bun adds 120 to 150, and two spoonfuls of garlic mayo add another 170 to 200. That is how a 350 kcal piece becomes a 1200 kcal meal without anyone noticing.

Broast against the other fried orders

Next to chicken chargha, broast is the lighter fried chicken piece for piece, since chargha's longer fry and scored skin take in more oil, while broast's pressure fry keeps oil absorption down a touch. Next to chicken tikka, there is no contest: tikka is grilled with no coating and no fry step, so the same 100 g runs far lower. And next to a zinger, broast pieces are the simpler order, since the burger adds a bun, mayo and cheese before you even count the chicken.

Making a broast meal lighter without giving it up

Peeling off the skin and most of the coating drops a piece by roughly 70 to 120 kcal, which is the single biggest saving available. It is also the least fun saving, since the coating is the point, so a more realistic move is to keep one piece with its crust intact and make the rest of the meal do the work: swap fries for salad, skip the second bun, and keep the dip to one spoonful instead of a puddle. Two pieces with salad instead of fries land around 700 to 900 kcal, which fits a normal dinner far more easily than the full meal deal.

Logging it in CalsFlow

I typed "2 pieces chicken broast with fries from a Karachi fast food shop" into CalsFlow to see what it does. It assumed a leg and a breast piece, skin on, pressure fried, plus a regular fries portion, and returned 1080 to 1420 kcal for the meal with the assumptions shown. Then I changed fries to salad. The estimate fell by about 300 to 400 kcal and the app flagged the fries as the reason. That matches the advice in our guide to counting calories in desi food: describe the meal the way you would to a friend, then adjust the one or two details that actually move the number. Here those are the pieces you ate and what came with them.

FAQs

How many calories are in 2 pieces of chicken broast? About 660 to 870 kcal for the chicken alone, depending on the cuts. Add fries and a bun and the meal runs 1080 to 1420 kcal.

Is chicken broast good for weight loss? One piece can fit fine. It is high in protein, which helps with fullness, and our protein requirements article explains why that matters. The meal deal with fries, bun and garlic sauce is harder to fit, since the sides add as much as a second piece.

Is broast healthier than regular fried chicken? Slightly, piece for piece, because pressure frying usually means less oil absorbed than open deep frying. The gap is modest, and a thick coated broast piece can still outrun a lightly coated fried piece, so the coating and the sides matter more than the fryer.

How many calories in broast with fries? One leg piece with a regular fries portion runs roughly 600 to 800 kcal before any bun or sauce. Two pieces with fries run 960 to 1270 kcal before the bun.

Broast earns its place on a late night table: crisp, salty, juicy, and built for sharing. One piece with salad is a perfectly normal meal. The full meal deal is a weekend order, and now you know exactly where its calories hide. Ordered broast tonight and unsure how much ended up on your plate?
